Volusia Speedway More Suited to Airboats, Kayaks, and Fishing

BARBERVILLE, FL - August 21, 2008 -

Volusia Speedway Park was already scheduled to be closed this Saturday, but in the wake of Tropical Storm Fay, management is considering opening for water sports options. The ongoing rains have left a nice pool in the infield and suggestions are being tossed about for fishing contests, boat races, the Canadian Kayak Tour and a variety of other water related activities.

Seriously, the Speedway will be closed on Saturday, August 23 and the WKA Karting event scheduled for this weekend has been postponed to September 6. Volusia Speedway extends sincere wishes for the safety and well-being of all our friends and neighbors affected by Tropical Storm Fay.

Volusia Speedway management is confident that Fay will leave Florida in time for preparations for next weeks events. Volusia Speedway re-opens on Friday, August 29 with an Open Practice for all divisions. Pit admission will be $15. Grandstand viewing of the practice sessions is free.

On Saturday, August 30, Volusia Speedway hosts the Labor Day Late Model Shootout with $3000 on the line for the winner of the Late Model main event. A full night of racing action is in store with all Volusia Speedway divisions in attendance - Sportsman, Modified, Street Stock, 4-Cyl Pure Stock and Mini Stocks. The Ice Cream Toss event postponed on August 16, will be held on August 30, promising some fun intermission entertainment. Adult admission for the Saturday show is $12, students ages 11 to 15 are $6 and children ages 10 and under are admitted free.

Mark you calendars for September 5 and 6 when Ocala Speedway and Volusia Speedway Park team up to bring the Central Florida Sprint Car Challenge.

Volusia Speedway Park is located 15 miles west of Ormond Beach, FL on State Road 40. Additional information and updates will be available on the website - www.volusiaspeedwaypark.com<http://www.volusiaspeedwaypark.com/>, or call 386-985-4402.
